Jalapenos Mexican Restaurante
A Mexican meal fit for a King. Well, how about a Governor? Situated just a couple short blocks from the State capitol is an outstanding Mexican restaurant for breakfast and lunch. If Gov. Snyder has not eaten off this menu then we suggest he does and he will likely be as hooked as are we. We have eaten here several times and tried many different items on the menu and all have been done perfectly. Owners Joe and Robyn Mrozinski have just celebrated their 17th year of business and with both working daily we believe they will celebrate many more due to the pride they take in their restaurant.
Mexican Breakfast in Lansing
When asked about a favorite, owner Joe told us we will enjoy everything. He then added that we needed to come back the next day for the breakfast burritos and nachos. Our lunches have all been thoroughly enjoyed and when it comes to breakfast we found even more of a WOW! Let me start with my personal favorite. I love the lunch menu and will tell you about the amazing burritos including the breakfast burrito but, the breakfast nachos are delectable and are at the top of my favorites. As I found, these made fresh daily chips are perfectly cooked. Their crispy texture and perfect thickness allows them to stay crunchy even while covered in a generous amount of your favorite toppings. They start with a unique mixture of salsa and beans which even one of our non-bean lovers enjoyed. Next, add a combination of toppings like eggs, potatoes, cheese, mushrooms, onion, olives, green pepper, lettuce, sour cream and your choice of meat–bacon, sausage, ham, chorizo or you can even enjoy them as a vegetarian dish. Finally, you have a mountain of breakfast nachos you will remember!
A Burrito for Breakfast
You may choose a simple but tasty bacon, egg and cheese burrito with additional ingredients like onion, green pepper and sour cream or as pictured above go for an explosion of flavor. It was a chorizo, egg and cheese burrito with onion, tomato, green pepper, jalapeno and potato. After living in Texas, I didn’t think I would eat another Mexican breakfast burrito with this much flavor. All I can say is, thank you Robyn for this palate pleasing plate! Joe told us she is the backbone, heart and soul of this restaurant This breakfast prepared by her, as it usually is, had all that.
Capitol City Mexican Lunch
From something as basic as three tacos to the wet burrito loaded with toppings – a delicious Mexican lunch awaits served to your specifications with a side of rice, beans and fresh chips. The extensive menu offers all of your Mexican favorites from tacos, nachos and burritos to salads and enchiladas. The secret to a great meal, as figured out by the owners and staff at Jalapenos, is simple, you serve everything with pride, in a clean restaurant, while making great food, tasty and fresh with every bite. If a slight spice is your choice the freshly made salsa is great both in mild or hot. If you are looking to kick it up a notch or two or for those who look for 5 alarm-spiciness they have several sauces to get it right where you want it. All the while keeping it perfect for those looking for something fresh and mild.
Don’t Forget The Bambino’s
From breakfast to lunch Jalapenos does Mexican superbly. It’s run by owners with pride and confidence in their menu as a restaurateur should have. One final recommendation is that you indulge yourself after your meal, whether breakfast or lunch, in a bambino. Our family has changed and decided that there is not a local doughnut which has anything on these. This sugar coated, deep fried, fruit filled treat is all good! One flavor or another, the Bambinos are it!
To close, a slightly modified Mexican proverb.
“The right time to eat is: for a rich man when he is hungry, for a poor man when he has something to eat and for all – anytime you can make it to Jalapenos!”
